A Timeless Antique Bronze Paint Effect
For centuries people have utilized aged bronze materials for prominent decorations. Today, Cromas continues this decorative tradition with our Antique Bronze paint effect.
This paint effect contains miniaturized bronze and iron particles that are naturally oxidized directly on the painted surface to produce vivid colors of green patina and rust. The key step is the application of the oxidizing solution and for what length of time. This process will determine the level of bronze aging and create the varied colors and shapes on the surface. As a result of this natural reaction, each finished surface a one-of-a-kind that will look slightly different from another surface.

These paints can be applied on wood, metal, and many plastic surfaces. Only the primer is changed to have good adhesion to the surface material. The application of the paints should be completed indoors to control the environmental conditions so you can produce the best oxidized effect.
The paints are 2K solvent-based acrylic spray paints that are paired with a polyurethane matte topcoat for a resistant surface that is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
Besides the ANTIQUE BRONZE paint effect, this series of effects also includes four other beautiful and naturally oxidized paint effects: Antique Brass — Rust — Verdigris — Antique Copper. Click on the name to visit the page for these other paint effects.

It is important to understand that the amount of oxidization will change depending on how the material is positioned during this process. For example:
- On VERTICAL surfaces, the application of the activator leads to a leaching effect where the oxidizing liquid will run down the surface to make streaks of oxidization. This can lead to a lighter aged bronze effect where more oxidizing liquid is applied to make the desired Antique Bronze effect
- On HORIZONTAL surfaces, the generous application of the oxidization liquid leaves pools of the liquid on the surface and this results in the formation of areas of oxidization that can have various colors due to the level of oxidization
In the end, both application positions will create a naturally oxidized surface that looks like it has been outdoors for many years, but the amount and the color of the patina will be different.
Watch this demonstration video to understand the application of the paints and especially how the Activator or Oxidization Solution is used to make the surface oxidize to create the lovely aged patina on the surface.
