A Classic Corten Rust Paint Effect
The Corten Rust effect is a ready-to-spray painting solution that converts many surfaces and objects into a realistic rusty finish. The paint is a one-component solvent-based acrylic paint effect that creates a faux but realistic rust look on smooth or textured surfaces.
The finished paint effect looks like oxidized Corten Steel that has been outside in the weather for years. Although real Corten is beautiful, it stains the surface and takes years to achieve the patina, whereas our paint effect can be completed in about 1 day.
The Corten Rust effect is different from the Naturally Oxidized Rust Effect. Click the link to learn the difference between the two effects.
The Corten product is very durable, fade resistant and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The effect has a visual texture with subtle light to dark rust shades depending on how much Corten paint is applied to the surface. We have two color options: AX.01 CORTEN and AX.02 LIGHT CORTEN.

Corten Effect on HelmetApplication of Corten Paint
Unlike other rust paint solutions, the strength of our Corten paint effect paint is the simplicity of the application. The Corten paint is a ready-to-spray product. It is necessary to shake and stir the Corten paint can very well to mix all the materials that have settled in the bottom of the can.
The spraying of Corten is a creative process to make areas of light and dark Rust color. After applying the white primer, spray several light layers of Corten paint – no need to wait between layers – until you see the rust color you want. The surface color will change from a red orange to a rust with darker areas as you apply more layers of Corten paint.
If you want more visual texture on the surface, you can spray more Corten in an irregularly pattern on some areas to create darker spots that simulate texture. It is important to understand that the more Corten paint you spray, the darker the surface will become. The effect is then finished with a Matte topcoat to seal and protect the surface.

Although the Corten Rust paint effect has not been studied for automotive bodywork, we have had many clients use the paint for cars, motorcycles and other vehicles. The transparent topcoat we recommended for automotive applications is very matte compared to the typical automotive matte transparent. In this case, we suggest to use the automotive matte transparent to increase the scratch and gasoline resistance.
The product does not comply to the Directive 42/2004/CE (VOC values) thus it must be used with the provided limitations only. The colors on screen are for reference only.
A sample kit of this paint effect is available for purchase. The sample kit will have 1 kg of each paint needed to make the effect. We supply primer, Corten Rust paint, Matte topcoat and hardener and thinner for spraying. This can paint a 3 m2 area.
The paints can be applied on these surfaces:
- Wood
- Metal (Iron, Aluminium, Brass, etc.)
- Plastics (ABS, ABS-PC, etc.)
- Glass
