Application in two chromatic variations for wood, metal and plastic
In this article we explain how to obtain an oxidized surface with an Ancient Bronze materic effect (click here to see the product page Ancient Bronze with real oxidation) by using two well known Cromas products:
AX.02 LIGHT CORTEN
AX.03 CLASSIC VERDIGRIS
The use of these two products leads to interesting and realistic aesthetic effects with the following characteristics:
- Look similar to the Ancient Bronze finishing with real oxidation
- Simplicity in application
- Resistance in the outdoor, to light and the elements
- Possibility to standardize the application and obtain reproducible surfaces
The procedure is simple and it’s the same for metals, wood and plastics:
- 1) Application of a white base
- 2) APPLICATION OF THE FIRST COLOR IN AN ALMOST HOMOGENEOUS WAY (AX.02 LIGHT CORTEN or AX.03 VERDIGRIS)
- 3) APPLICATION OF THE SECOND COLOR IN STAINS (AX.02 LIGHT CORTEN or AX.03 VERDIGRIS)
- 4) Application of the protective matte transparent
The order for the use of the colors will lead to two different final colors, as you can see in the following images. Here we present the two results:
PROCEDURE #1
First color applied: AX.02 LIGHT CORTEN
Second color applied: AX.03 CLASSIC VERDIGRIS
PROCEDURE #2
First color applied: AX.03 CLASSIC VERDIGRIS
Second color applied: AX.02 LIGHT CORTEN

PROCEDURE #2 First color applied: AX.03 CLASSIC VERDIGRIS Second color applied: AX.02 LIGHT CORTENAs can be noticed, in the procedure #1 a color is obtained where the rust is predominant, typical of the cor-ten steel. In procedure #2 the verdigris tones are prevalent instead.

PROCEDURE #2 First color applied: AX.03 CLASSIC VERDIGRIS Second color applied: AX.02 LIGHT CORTENThe detailed procedure of the application is shown in this video tutorial:
With this procedure, two elegant and stunning surfaces are obtained. The cycle includes an application with spray gun or mixed air pump.
It’s a product suitable only for professional or industrial use, solvent based and it’s not suitable for private applicators or for walls. The painting cycle has been studied mainly for internal and external decoration works, in series and contract, on wood and metal.
Being the final effect subjected to the operator skills, we recommend to perform application trials before starting the desired work. We point out that the final look must be evaluated after the application of the protective transparent and its complete dryness. In fact, the final transparent enhances some of the components in the paints leading to more vivid and bright colors compared to the surface not yet treated with the protective.
