Heavily Aged Metal Paint Effects with Strong Visual Contrast
How dark do you want it to look? A simple question with many answers. When our Smoked Metal effects are applied to a surface, they transform the material from plain into a deep and richly toned aged metal finish that is easily customized for the desired design.
So the answer is … You can have it as dark as you want!
These special finishes were developed to satisfy requests from designers who want to enrich an environment where post-industrial style and weathered metals finishes dominate.
For these burnished paints effects, you can choose metallic base paints in cool hues like White Steel or warm shades like Brass and Bronze. These metallic base paints are paired with different patina colors to offer a diverse range of Smoked Metal effects. The current colours include:
| 81015C BURNED STEEL 81016C LONDON SMOKE |

81020C BRONZED TOBACCO
Bronze base with heavy Black/Brown PatinaLike all our special paint effects, this series is applied in layers beginning with a primer, then the effect paints, and finally the topcoat to seal and protect the finish. But during the application cycle, you have creative control to develop the Smoked Metal effect that suits your design.
How do we do this?
It is all in the magic of the patina. To create the bold patina effect, a heavier layer of our special patina is sprayed over the metallic base paint. Then it is sanded away with an orbital sander in an irregular pattern to create the dark and moody aged metal effect. Finish the Smoked Metal effect with one of our professional topcoats. All effects can be applied on small, large or complex surfaces. For interior or exterior use.
The finished result is a deep toned antique effect where the metallic base keeps its soft metallic shine, but the patina is more dominate to create a strong visual contrast. To see a step-by-step application, watch this video tutorial:
To test these unique paint effects, a sample kit is available for purchase. The sample kit will have 1 kg of each paint needed to make the effect. We supply primer, Smoked Metal effect paints, matte topcoat and hardener and thinner for spraying. This can paint a 5 m2 area.
This paint effect can be sprayed on the following surfaces:
- Wood
- Metal – Iron, Aluminium, Brass, etc.
- Plastics – ABS, ABS-PC, etc.
For the Aged Metal series, there are two other groups of effects called Vintage Metal and Brushed Metal. These effects use the same metallic base paints and patinas, but the application and sanding away of the patina is different to create many more striking antique metal effects.
